RIU hotels with kids: what to know

Not every RIU hotel is kid-friendly — the chain runs both family resorts and adults-only properties. This guide helps you choose right before you book.

Watch out for adults-only

Much of the Riu Palace line, along with a few specific Hotel Riu properties, operates as adults-only (18+) — no children of any age are accepted. This is usually stated in the hotel's name or description; always check before booking if you're traveling with kids.

What to look for in a family resort

A true family resort has a kids' club with age-based programming, a shallow pool or water park, a kids' menu at the buffet, and a crib/extra bed available on request. Family suites (with two rooms or a sofa bed) are worth it for larger groups.

All-inclusive is especially good when traveling with kids: you don't have to track spending meal by meal, and snacks and drinks are available all day.

Best destinations for children

Punta Cana and Cancún have shallow, calm, reef-protected water — safer for young kids to swim in. Nassau (Bahamas) adds the draw of Atlantis, with its aquarium and water park, minutes from the resorts.

Destinations with more open water or currents (parts of Jamaica, Cabo San Lucas) call for more attention — always follow the beach flag signage.
