When to visit each RIU destination
The RIU network spans destinations with very different climates — from the tropical Caribbean to temperate cities. This guide breaks down the best time to visit each region.
Mexico and the Caribbean (Cancún, Riviera Maya, Punta Cana, Jamaica, Bahamas)
High season runs November through April, with drier weather and pleasant temperatures. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, peaking in risk between August and October — it doesn't rule out travel, but it's worth checking the forecast closer to your dates and considering travel insurance.
Aruba is the exception: it sits outside the traditional hurricane belt and has dry weather year-round, a solid pick any month.
Costa Rica and Panama
In Guanacaste (Costa Rica) and on Panama's Pacific coast, the dry season runs December through April — more sun, less rain, high season. May through November is the green season, with brief afternoon showers and lusher scenery.
Riu Plaza cities (New York, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Madrid, Berlin, Dublin)
New York and Chicago have harsh winters (Dec-Feb) and pleasant spring/fall — April-June and Sept-Oct tend to be the best months. Miami is warm year-round, with winter as high season (an escape from the cold elsewhere in the US) and a rainier summer.
San Francisco has mild weather year-round with no big heat spikes. Madrid and Berlin are best in spring and summer (May-Sept); Berlin in winter gains the extra charm of its Christmas markets despite the cold. Dublin is mild and rainy year-round — pack a coat any month.
